Days Between Dates

Count how many days lie between two dates — for event countdowns, contract deadlines, vacation planning, or tracking how long something has lasted. The count is exact, leap-year aware, and shown in weeks, hours, and minutes as well.

How days are counted

The count is the number of midnights crossed between the two dates: January 1 to January 3 is 2 days. Every date is treated as a whole calendar day at UTC midnight, so daylight saving changes and time zones never shift the result. Enter the dates in either order — the calculator swaps them automatically if needed.

Should the end date count?

It depends on what you are counting. For a countdown ("how many days until the wedding"), you want midnights crossed — leave the box unchecked. For durations where the last day itself matters — hotel stays billed per day, medication courses, rental periods, and many legal deadlines — tick include end date and the final day is counted as a full day.

The classic example
Friday → Sunday, exclusive: 2 days  (nights away) Friday → Sunday, inclusive: 3 days  (calendar days touched)

A year is never a whole number of weeks — that extra day (or two in leap years) is why the same date falls on a different weekday each year.

Frequently asked questions

How many days are between two dates?

Pick the start and end dates above and the exact count appears instantly. The standard count is the number of midnights crossed; tick "include end date" if the final day should count as a full day.

Does the count include both the start and end dates?

By default the count is exclusive of the end date — it measures the gap, not the days touched. Enabling "include end date" adds the final day, which suits inclusive conventions like rental periods and dosage schedules.

Can I count days into the future?

Yes — set the start date to today and the end date to the future event. The result is the countdown in days, with weeks, hours, and minutes shown alongside.

Are weekends and holidays excluded?

No — this tool counts every calendar day. Business-day counting (excluding weekends and public holidays) follows different rules per country and is a separate calculation.
