Time between two times
Enter a start time and an end time and the calculator finds the exact duration between them, down to the second. If the end time is earlier than the start time, it's assumed to cross midnight into the next day — useful for overnight shifts and late-night events — and a note confirms when that assumption is being made.
Time between two dates
For a duration that spans more than a single day, switch to the second tab and enter a specific date alongside each time. Because the dates are explicit, there's no need to guess whether a shift crosses midnight, and the result can span days, not just hours.
Frequently asked questions
Does this calculator subtract breaks or exclude weekends?
No — this calculator is deliberately just the raw duration between two points in time. For work hours with a break deducted, see the Hours Calculator. For counting business days while excluding weekends and holidays, see the Business Days Calculator.
What happens if the end time is before the start time?
On the "Time Between Two Times" tab, it's assumed the end time falls the next day (an overnight span), and a note confirms this. On the "Time Between Two Dates" tab, dates are explicit, so an end date/time before the start date/time shows an error instead of guessing.
